About Scotland
Putting things in perspective, there are about six and a half billion people currently alive on the planet. The average density of human population is 44.57 per square kilometre. The most dense population exists in Monaco with the least being Greenland. The largest city in the World is Cairo with about seventeen and a half million inhabitants. India is the largest democracy in the World with a population of about nine hundred million. Harris County in Texas, USA, with the City of Houston at its centre has a population of 5.2 million. The Irish Republic, Norway and Scotland, have similar populations of about five million people. Unlike the Irish Republic and Norway, Scotland is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and a devolved Parliament, based in Edinburgh, oversees the local and different legal and education systems of Scotland. Issues involving the entire United Kingdom, like defence, are preserves of the UK Parliament at the Palace of Westminster in London. Other parts of the United Kingdom, in Wales and Ulster (Northern Ireland) also have devolved Parliaments in modern times.
